Grief Counseling in Modesto

Create the healing & growth you didn’t know you would need

Your Grief Therapy in Modesto CA

You wake up not knowing how you will get through the day with all this pain, a pit in your stomach. You hold back tears, and you feel you are falling apart. You feel lost, it’s hard to breathe, and you miss them so much. This was your go-to person or a significant being (e.g., a pet | family| friend member), your loved one.

Grief has turned your world upside down. You have so many questions like: “Where do I start?” “Who do you talk to?” “How do I make sense of all this? and… “How do I move toward the life yet to come?”

You are a private person, and you don’t want to feel like a burden to those around you. It is a struggle to share your life with others. How do you begin to share the roller coaster of emotions you feel?

You might go from hysterically crying at one moment to finding laughter in another. You may experience guilt at the idea of moving into your next chapter. You might experience sadness, despair, confusion, anger, numbness, loneliness, feeling overwhelmed, heaviness, helplessness, hopelessness, calmness, relief, and so MUCH more in a given day.

You find it hard to really open up and chat about what you are going through. You have read books and blogs, followed social media accounts, and tried to apply some things, but it’s not enough. Your experience is unique to you, and I am here to support you.

Hola, I'm Laura Garcia, Your Grief Therapist in Modesto

I focus on helping adults who have lost a loved one by creating a space to unpack all the thoughts, feelings, pain, numbness, and turmoil that can come up with grief.

Laura Garcia LMFT, Therapy in Modesto CA

You feel your life is on hold, and there is a sense of uncertainty about how to move forward in your life journey without “leaving” your loved one.

Grief therapy doesn’t have to be more painful than your grief. You will be cared for, tended to, and listened to, and you will know there is a safe space for us to do your healing work. We will embrace your feelings and not rationalize them away. I will help you create a way to cope, process and pack up your grief in a way that allows you to take your loved one with you while knowing there is more life to come.

Together, we create a space where you can share about your person/being and experience, laugh, cry, and feel seen, heard, and understood. In this space, you are invited to explore and talk about what goes unsaid, try on different perspectives, and share the roller coaster of feelings of sadness, anger, numbness, and everything in between. All in a safe space and container full of support, encouragement, and accountability. Together, we can create understanding and create moments for connection and compassion.

Grief isn’t one size fits all, so let’s figure out what you need. The fewer expectations we have about what experiencing grief could or should be, the more we allow ourselves to embrace grief for what it is.

You will incorporate new coping skills for handling grief as it comes up throughout the day. We will create home exercises that will enable you to create opportunities to practice and incorporate these skills into your lifestyle.

We create awareness of what is happening in your body and often suggest incorporating body movement  (e.g., yoga, massage, dance, acupuncture) because grief is felt in the body, mind, and heart. Together we work through the journey of healing and learning how to integrate grief into your life.

Over time, my clients' experiences change not only in their ability to create space for the grief but also in how they experience their lives, careers, and relationships. They move from feeling like they are drowning in grief to breathing and moving into their life again. We meet weekly so you have a safe space to feel your feelings, hear your thoughts, and have consistent support and encouragement. Find out more about the value of weekly sessions. Together, we will explore and discover how to create a new way of living that includes your person|your being. You can learn more about the process of working with me here and the services offered.
