What is the importance of weekly therapy sessions? You might have thought, is it possible to meet every other week? By the time someone reaches out they have been considering therapy for some time. By the time people reach out they are ready to get help and create change. Let’s dive into the value of weekly therapy sessions from your therapist in Modesto.

A Therapist in Modesto perspective on weekly sessions

A big motivator for people seeking Therapy in Modesto is feeling better. To feel better, different ingredients will go into your recipe.  As a therapist, I can help you gain clarity and understanding and feel connected to your body and whole being.

From the beginning, we create an understanding of the intention for our work together. The intention may be to manage anxiety, feel and deal with the grief resulting from the loss, and much more. We process past and current events that have added to your feeling overwhelmed and anxious. We focus on developing the skills to manage what life brings up so you can truly show up in your world. Building a safe and secure attachment is essential in a client-therapist relationship; weekly appointments facilitate building it.

Why, weekly sessions with a Therapist in Modesto?

Through my years of experience as a therapist, I noticed the impact of weekly therapy sessions. Weekly sessions provide a dedicated, supportive space and accountability to do the work.

Weekly sessions have become a norm in my practice. As a therapist, I check in with my clients throughout the therapy process. This checking-in helps us pivot as we need to during your process.

When working with clients weekly, more report an improvement in how they feel and in their ability to manage a “setback” (as often described by clients). Experiencing 12 sessions over 12 weeks is different impact than 12 sessions over 6 months. In this study, they explored the speed of recovery in relation to session attendance. Their results indicated that clients who attended weekly sessions achieved greater gains faster than those who attended biweekly sessions.

Factors that support progress in weekly sessions with a therapist in Modesto.

There are different factors that can support a client’s progress during their process in therapy. Weekly sessions help support developing these factors.

A therapeutic container.  This is a space where trust, safety, and connection are created for the client and therapist. Weekly sessions help us nurture this therapeutic container to do the deep work.

Developing coping strategies. These are tools to help you self-soothe. Weekly sessions help us check in with what strategies are or aren’t working. When a strategy is not working, weekly sessions allow us to brainstorm new ones and adjust them as needed. Furthermore, we can build this new habit of implementing coping strategies.

Doing the deep work invites us to uncover what is already there. We need the space to create understanding, healing, and growth. This work requires commitment and support even when you want to avoid it. Weekly sessions create more opportunities to check in, manage, and digest the process. This aids in implementing the adjustments and changes in a more doable way.

Momentum of sessions. We can work through things in real-time. We spend less time catching up during each session and more time continuing the deep work because we check in weekly.

Weekly sessions are more cost-effective. The weekly sessions nurture the therapeutic container needed to do the healing work. With nonweekly sessions, this process takes much longer. Why? Because momentum is lost. This means more time nourishing momentum, which means more time and money.Check out this blog about different ways to pay for Therapy in Modesto to gain some more insight.

Are non-weekly sessions ever appropriate?

In my practice, clients can choose biweekly sessions as we transition graduation. Most clients prefer this gradual tapering off as part of their graduating plan. Clients say it increases their self-confidence to continue to work when therapy concludes.
